PROJECT INTRODUCTION:

‘In our shoes’ campaign is the Universal Accessibility & Disability Services (UADS) initiative that aims to give the university community an opportunity to experience the challenges related to making use of a wheelchair on campus.

 

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF PARTICIPANTS?

  • With the help of an assistant, spend at least 40 continuous minutes in a wheelchair
  • Move within a prescribed area carrying out designated tasks. Task sheets will be provided.
  • Report back findings for follow-through

 

WHO WILL PARTICIPATE?                                                                         

  • Staff (Academics & Non-Academic)
  • Executive & middle Management 
  • Students

IN OUR SHOES OBJECTIVES:

  • Create awareness regarding issues relating to accessibility for people with disabilities within the Nelson Mandela University Campuses.
  • Involve the university community in making a difference by handing over 10 wheelchairs to the residences in PE Campuses, then George will follow.
  • Have the university community at large assess and recommend changes regarding accessibility.
